Sierra Marie Armstrong

Sierra has always felt a call to create, to express herself, her experiences, and dreams. She believes creativity is a way of living and that painting is a form of self-exploration and self-preservation. Sierra wishes to share her artistic journey, its whimsy, melancholy and joys, in hopes that it will inspire others to follow their dreams.

Sierra was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska and currently resides there with her husband and their cat. Living in Alaska has inspired Sierra to live closely with nature and the seasons, which is expressed in many of her paintings. When she isn’t painting, she enjoys reading, gardening, cooking, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and exploring the great outdoors.

Sierra’s creative journey started like most kids with coloring books, crayons, collaging, and imagination. She received her first easel at 10 years old, sparking a love for painting. Throughout her public education Sierra took art classes as often as she could, expanding her creative studies in pottery, drawing, painting, jewelry making, and igniting an interest in all forms of art. After high school she attended the University of Anchorage Alaska, convinced that being practical and responsible would serve her better in the future she studied business, taking few art classes throughout her time at college. While at school she began working full time and somewhere between college, career, and bad relationships, she stopped pursuing her artistic passions.

After 10 years of building a career in the mortgage industry Sierra slowly realized something was missing from her life, she felt burnt out, unfulfilled, and ultimately lost, despite being conventionally successful. Deep down she knew she had more to give this world and would eventually be drawn back to a creative life to embrace her true calling. Sierra finally took a leap of faith to pursue her artistic dreams full-heartedly in 2025 and quit her 9-5 career to start painting.

Sierra describes her painting style as a form of expressionism, with many of her pieces depicting personal experiences or concepts in a playful way. She loves to create paintings with bright colors, bold movement, and rich texture. Sierra uses thick brushstrokes that stand out on the canvas, giving her paintings a more abstract essence. She specializes in acrylic paint, although she plans to explore many different mediums, and has enjoyed other creative outlets such as interior design and glass blowing. Sierra also enjoys exploring fantasy through her art, bringing her a sense of childlike magic, that she believes the world needs more-of.

Currently Sierra is growing her art career, painting often, finding deeper meaning in her work, and creating a truly fulfilling life. Sierra also works part time in a local art gallery, Stephan Fine Arts, in downtown Anchorage, and is happily surrounded by an abundance of art, an amazing artist community, and endless inspiration. Following her dreams of being a painter has brought her more joy, wonder, and excitement than she could have ever known, and she can’t wait to see where this path will lead her.
